Port of Edmonds Boatyard Named Leadership Clean Boatyard

EDMONDS, WA –The Port of Edmonds boatyard was recently named a Leadership Clean Boatyard by the Clean Boating Foundation. First certified back in 2012, the Port of Edmonds boatyard is the first boatyard in Washington state to be recertified through the Seattle-based foundation’s Clean Boatyard Program.

The Clean Boatyard Program recognizes clean boatyards on two different levels: certified Clean Boatyards and certified Leadership Clean Boatyards. Clean certification comes with full compliance of all rigorous checklist items based on NPDES boatyard permit and hazardous waste regulations. Checklist subject matters include stormwater monitoring, proper paint removal, tenant education, hazardous waste disposal, and Best Management Practices (BMPs). The additional Leadership Clean certification is awarded to boatyards that demonstrate a true commitment to environmental protection by going above and beyond the certification checklist.

In its report, the Clean Boating Foundation complimented the Port’s innovative stormwater filtration system, effective implementation of rigorous Best Management Practices (BMPs) and support for local environmental-focused educational programs. The report goes on to recognize the Port’s commitment to keeping Washington waters clean and healthy for all.

“The Port of Edmonds is proud to once again, be recognized as an industry leader for environmental practices,” said Port of Edmonds Executive Director Bob McChesney. “Our marina operations staff, led by Deputy Director Marla Kempf, work diligently to follow and promote our environmental policies and standards every single day of the year.”
